"hep c"

Dr. Boyd,
Please tell me that there is a cure for hep c. My doctor wants to start me on Interferon. I have heard bad things about this drug. I am a 32 year old white male. I have had a liver byopsy showing that I have little scaring. Please help.......Thank you.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Hepatitis C in Traditional Chinese Medicine. There is some research that compounds such as oxymatrine (derived from sophora), might possibly reduce liver enzyme levels. However, I have not seen any evidence that it has any long term effect on the disease. We also do not know if it has any interactions with other types of medication.

I would strongly recommend that you share your concerns about interferon with your physician so that you can get information about the drug. I know that many people are concerned about side effects of interferon, but they do not happen to everyone, nor are they necessarily severe. You physician will be able to give you up-to-date information.
