head and neck cancer

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Aug 08, 2002 12:41 am

My 60 year old father has squamous cell carcinoma. He has been through surgery, radiation and chemotherapy The cancer has spread. The doctor's say that there is nothing further they can do. The pain medication is less and less effective, even with increased dosage. I am praying for a miracle as well as frantically searching for an alternative treatment. Can you suggest anything - even if it's just to decrease his swelling and pain?

Although I wish it were otherwise, Traditional Chinese Medicine has no cure for cancer. There are two modalities that might help your father with his pain, however. One is acupuncture, which can be used along with his pain medicine as an adjunctive therapy. The second is massage--just on the feet using foot reflexology might be useful as well. I would strongly recommend though that you get an ok from your father's doctor before adding these modalities to make sure they will not interfere with any medications or modalities.
