This is a complex question. I can only speak within my specialty, which is Traditional Chinese Medicine. In general, I am in the conservative camp when it comes to treatment during pregnancy, unless there is a specific reason that treatment is necessary. Using acupuncture and herbs during pregnancy depends on the types of herbs and the parts of the body for acupuncture, as well as on the duration of the pregnancy. I would recommend that you speak to your gynecologist before taking any type of complementary and alternative medicines and get his/her approval.

For more insight into other types of CAM, I would recommend that you send a query to our naturopath.
