Castor oil has been used therapeutically for hundreds of years, both internally and externally. Castor oil applied topically has many beneficial effects and can be used for almost any malady. The castor oil pack is a simple procedure, yet it can produce wonderful results. Physiological effects of the castor oil pack include, but are not limited to: stimulating the liver, increasing eliminations, relieving pain, increasing lymphatic circulation, improving gastrointestinal function, increasing relaxation, and reducing inflammation.
Materials
- Three layers of natural, undyed wool or flannel cotton large enough to cover the abdomen (about 13" x 15")
- Castor oil
- Plastic wrap
- Hot water bottle
Procedure
- Soak cotton with castor oil. It should be saturated but not wringing wet.
- Place the pack on the lower right abdomen (covering the liver). The pack may be placed from breast bone to pubic bone.
- Cover the pack with plastic wrap and place a hot water bottle over the pack.
- Leave the pack on for 3060 minutes. Use the castor oil pack 37 days a week.
Notes
- Do not use the pack around eating time.
- Do not use the pack during heavy menses.
- For joint inflammation, use directly over the affected joint.
- Perform deep breathing exercises, meditation, or pray while the pack is on.
- The same pack may be used for weeks or months. Add 1 tablespoon castor oil to the pack every 45 uses. Store the pack in plastic in a cool place.
